Chulo Restaurant & Bar @ Jaya One

The perfect evening to chill out after a long day at work is definitely a restaurant that fused together with a bar as well. I always enjoy coming to places like these as some of them serves amazing finger food and drinks although usually their main restaurant dishes are just average. Chulo Restaurant & Bar, situated at Jaya One has all that I am looking for in terms of concept but it is time for me to find out how they deliver their dishes.

The setting and interior of the place was definitely cosy and relaxing. However, my place was quite a bit stuffy and hot. Wasn't being too comfortable moving around between taking photographs and eating.

I don't usually drink but Gin is one of my favourite alcohol. Initially I wasn't feeling any alcohol that night but after Bok mentioning they have one of the best Gin around, who am I to say no to that. This Gin is actually Hendrick Gin and it is definitely one of the smoothest gin I had. Highly recommended if you fancy some gin.

Chulo's Nicoise Salad (RM18.80)
I was surprise that this supposedly salad and appetiser dish had such large portion of grilled butterfish fillet on it. That's quite heavy to go as an appetiser. But the grilled butterfish fillet was perfect with the skin pretty much moist on the inside.

Smoked Duck Breast Salad (RM18.80)
As you can see from the picture, the smoked duck is cooked with perfection with its pinkish hue. It wasn't overcooked at all and the salty duck meat goes perfect with the sweet and slight sourish mango. Definitely my kind of appetiser.

Hot Wings (RM14.80)
Chulo's Hot Wings were some savoury chicken wings perfectly marinated with chilli lime and garlic sauce. The sweet, sour and spicy combo is appetising and the chicken wings were indeed tender on the inside as well.

Prawn Cocktail (RM22.80)
Another combination of sweet and sour appetiser, the prawn were fried nicely. The sweet and sourness of the sauce compliments the deep fried prawns really well.

Potato & Leek Soup (RM12.80)
The potato & leek soup was really creamy but yet with a very smooth texture to it. It goes perfectly well with the toast bread and definitely keeps you wanting for more.

Cream of Broccoli Soup (RM12.80)
The Cream of Broccoli Soup was also creamy and smooth. However, they were quite heavy on the salt and hence too salty to my liking.

Minestrone Soup (RM18.80)
The Minestrone Soup is definitely generous with the amount of pasta they thrown in. However, the soup was quite salty and I would prefer if the broth is a bit thicker in texture.

Butterfish Fillet (RM34.80)
The grilled butterfish fillet was grilled with perfection with a nice glaze on the outside and still moist on the inside. The seafood Chulo used in this platter were definitely fresh and served with tomato fondue sauce.

Chicken Meat Loaf (RM24.80)
This dish was served with a spicy capsicum sauce which had a mild spiciness to it that I like. The meatloaf and other ingredients were definitely generous in portions but the meat loaf is tad a little too dry to my liking.
Rack of Lamb (RM45.80)
Chulo's rack of lamb was fantastic that night. Served with rosemary sauce, the meat was tender and cooked perfectly to medium rare. It came with generous portion of vegetables and potato wedges. One of the highlight dishes I had that night.

Nez Zealand Lamb Chop (RM23.80)
Another highlight dish for the night is definitely their Lamb Chop. Served with rosemary sauce and caramelised onions, they meat were yet again seasoned well and cooked to medium rare perfection. Worth every calories I had to endure that night.

Spanish Seafood Paella (RM24.80)
This Spanish Seafood Paella was a bit pricey but it comes with generous amount of seafood. The texture of the rice and broth are quite good in my opinion. However, it could use a little less salt on this one.

Creme Brulee (RM18.80)
Their creme brulee definitely needs some work on it. The texture was not as smooth as I hope it to be but the good thing is it wasn't too sweet.

Bread & Butter Pudding (RM18.80)
The bread and butter pudding was on a different level compared to the creme brulee. The crispy outer layer with fluffy insides for the bread pudding was delicious. Paired with a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream and bits of bitter sweet dried raisins,
Chocolate Tiramisu (RM18.80)
The chocolate tiramisu was good as well. The bitter and sweet flavours were very well balanced. The texture of the cakes was soft and moist. It wasn't too sweet or too creamy and those were the plus points for me.
Chocolate Lave Cake

The chocolate lava cake were definitely the star dessert for the night. The cake was cooked to perfection, slightly crispy on the outside but completely soft, fluffy and moist on the inside. The chocolate within were quite plenty and rich in texture.

Overall, it was quite a pleasant dining experience I suppose with good company. If it wasn't for the uncomfortable seating area, I would probably enjoy my time here more. Love the lamb dishes that Chulo had to offer and also the phenomenal molten chocolate lava cake.
