Zest Cafe @ The Sphere Bangsar South

Healthy eating has been all the rage lately. Either that or I am getting old and the healthy eating trend keeps shoving in my face. Zest Cafe, a restaurant situated at The Sphere Bangsar South, is one of the very few restaurants that decided to keep a healthy eating policy to its approach. Let's have a look at their menu, shall we?

The interior decorating of Zest Cafe definitely had a very homely feel to it. The warm wood designs provide a very pleasant, warm and welcoming feeling to its diners. True to their concept of making their customers felt at home, the ambience definitely play a major role here.

Pumpkin Soup (RM6.50)
The pumpkin soup is rich in flavour and thick in texture. The soup is very smooth and creamy in texture. Although I myself felt that the seasoning for the soup is perfect, I know most would actually prefer a little more salt in it.

Mushroom Soup (RM6.50)
The mushroom soup holds a surprise to me. I would expect a creamy texture soup like the pumpkin but it wasn't. The soup is not too think but not diluted either and it is filled with chunky mushroom bits. The chewy mushroom bits compliments well with its soup. I would prefer it to contain more pepper in it and it is a good thing bottles of salt and pepper are provided to spice things a little. It is very flavourful and I definitely pick this soup anytime over the pumpkin soup.

The thick and creamy pumpkin soup

Zest Salad (RM17.50)
The Zest Salad is a mixture of pan grilled prawns, grilled zucchini, aubergine and pumpkin. It is then seasoned with balsamic dressings. The sweet and a slight sourish dish definitely opens up my appetite well. The dish was presented colourfully as well.
Cheesy Seafood Baked Rice (RM23.80)
Zest Cafe's Cheesy Seafood Baked Rice is very generous with its ingredients. There are prawns, squid, mussel and also fish slices thrown into it. The cheese used in this dish is mozzarella cheese and it was definitely baked to perfection. The rice texture is about right and having it together with the perfectly baked cheese, it simply melts in your mouth. The cheese is baked perfect in this one and the cheese texture is not too hard or watery either. However, I still felt their baked rice could tone down a little of salt there.
Fish & Chips (RM31.80)
Although dory fish is the more popular choice for Fish & Chips due to its firmness, Zest Cafe uses butterfish fillet for their dish. What I really love about their Fish n Chips is their fish was deep fried with their batter to perfection. The outer layer is crispy and crunchy while the fish meat is still soft on the inside. The fish are definitely fried to perfection and unlike most common Fish n Chips, on the inside, there wasn't any hint of uncooked batter. Definitely one of my favorite for the night.
Chicken Lasagna (RM20.50)

Zest Cafe's Chicken Lasagna is definitely one of the better lasagnas I had eaten this year. The flavour have a well balance taste of cheese and tomato. Most importantly, the layerings of this lasagna is very nicely done. As you eat it, you can really taste the different alternating layers of cheese and chicken meat sauce. The layers did not collapse onto one another creating a whole different kind of thing.

Rosemary Chicken (RM21 - Half Chicken / RM38 - Whole Chicken)
The star for Zest Cafe is definitely their Rosemary Chicken. The seasoning and flavour is just about right without being too salty. The roast chicken meat is slightly crispy on the outside while being moist and tender within. The fragrance of rosemary definitely made the dish more appetising and it wasn't too strong until it overshadowed the rest of the flavours.

Pan Grilled Lamb Cutlet (RM 39.80)
I absolutely adore mutton and unfortunately, this dish fail a little short from my expectation. The lamb meat was just slightly overdone to my liking. But I like how their lamb is serve with yogurt mint sauce and hummus. These two slightly acidic or sourish sauce compliments well with the taste of the lamb cutlet.

Prawn Spaghetti Alla Pesto (RM 19.50)
The spaghetti was cooked al dente and the pesto seasoning on it is just about right and not being too strong to my liking. What I love about this dish the most is the generous size of the tiger prawns served. The prawn was grilled nicely and it is still very succulent and juicy.

Zest Cafe definitely provide some dishes with a homely feel to it. It is like eating out at a Western home, even their interior design shows that. I like the fact that they are approaching the healthy way of cooking their food, not too oily and salty. The restaurant owner said they are always improving their dishes and coming up with new dishes but they will stick to their main principle which are healthy cooking. Considering the trend of eating these days, I think that is actually a very smart move and it would definitely appeal more towards the young adults.
