Lunch Promotion at Sanook @ Plaza Kelana Jaya
Unknown7:20 AM 1 comments

One of my favourite dining place in Petaling Jaya is got to be Plaza Kelana Jaya. Living in the city rarely gives me the opportunity to have some fancy place to dine at such as by the lake or river. The closest I have is probably next to a flooded drain which I am sure we Malaysians are all too familiar with. Sanook is located by this man-made lake and it is always a pleasant experience dining here. The cool breeze and soothing atmosphere is a welcome break in my hectic lifestyle. Of course, dining at such place here could also mean one thing. Crazy expensive food. But that is not necessary the case here. Sanook Bistro Sportz Bar is having a lunch promotion called Really Good Value Lunch. They promise good food with affordable price for it as well.

Sanook Bistro Sportz Bar
The interior is set at a comfortable al fresco dining outlook. I definitely wouldn't mind having lunch at such place all the time.

The dishes below are all offered under their Really Good Value Lunch and we were given an opportunity to taste each of them. The price they offered are actually quite reasonable considering the portion and ingredients used. There is no doubt on that. The question for this is how each dish fare taste wise.

Ayam Percik Vietcong
Their Ayam Percik Vietcong, is a dish done with a fusion of Malaysian and Vietname style. The chicken was marinated and grilled to perfection. The meat was tender and well cooked with a hint of sweetness in it. The sauce covering the chicken is actually Vietnam peanut sauce is definitely unique. It tasted a bit like the peanut gravy commonly used for satay. The rice was cooked with herbs and surprisingly, they definitely can cook a really good bowl of rice. Their rice texture is perfect and seasoned well with the perfect firmness and chewiness.
Smokey Wing Kao Phad Kapit
This is actually a fusion of Malaysia and Thai cuisine, belacan fried rice with fried chicken wings marinated with thai sauce. The crispy texture of the chicken wing and the tenderness of the meat are very well done and they definitely have one of the better belacan fried rice around. Not too strong on the belacan taste but enough for the kick and spiciness.

Spaghetti Aglio Olio Seafood
One of my favourite pasta of all time is Spaghetti Aglio Olio. This Seafood Aglio Olio by Sanook surely did not disappoint. The spaghetti is definitely al dente and the seasoning is done just right. The seafood used here that day was definitely fresh as well (don't worry, they are definitely not fished from that lake).

Fettuccine Chicken Alfredo
The fettuccine we had that day is definitely creamy with generous amount of chicken meat as well. But it was only average to me. It is quite decent and also tasted very cheesy as well. If you love cheese, probably this would be your dish. I felt the previous dishes had definitely overshadowed this dish in terms of taste and uniqueness. Not a bad thing actually as this shows how good the previous dishes are.

Kungpo Loh Shi Fun
Kungpo Loh Shi Fun (Loh Shu Fun) is a variation from the local Chinese cuisine. This dish was definitely comparable to those Kungpo dishes outside with good enough of wok hei and seasoning to it. Definitely one of the best among the dishes I had from this menu. The portion is definitely huge enough and I doubt an average girl could eat all of it.

Vongole Clam Penne
Vongole Clam Penne was prepared with generous amount of ingredients especially white clams and cherry tomatoes. Cooked in a very similar way with the Seafood Aglio Olio, so it does taste as good as well.

Seafood Canto Sang Mee
Prepared with decent amount of squids and also fresh water prawns, this Canto style mee is definitely worth every single cent you pay for. The gravy is thick and flavourful while not being too salty as well. Definitely a good order for lunch as well.
Jasmine Rice for the Hainanese Chicken Rice

Hainanese Chicken Rice
Sanook's Hainanese Chicken Rice is one of their signature dish, in fact a dish which was unchanged since the opening of this bistro. I heard many good stories about this dish from them and I must say, they really live up to my expectation. The chicken meat is tender and smooth. Not only that, it is well seasoned and cooked to perfection. It isn't as salty as what most chicken rice seller would do it which is why it is perfect. The most outstanding part of this dish is not the chicken but the rice. Their jasmine rice, cooked with their very own chicken stock and it is perfect. I was told that the owner have his rice directly imported from Thailand which explains why all their rice has such brilliant texture and fragrance. Served with ginger oil and chilli, they definitely have one of the best Hainanese Chicken Rice around. If you ever dine here, I would highly recommend trying this dish.

Ginger & Chilli Sauce

Sanook's Really Good Value Lunch is priced at RM12++ per dish, served with complimentary soup, soft drink and dessert. Given the amount of the things they included, portion and taste, I would really say it is good value indeed. The dishes Sanook included in this menu are all available in their ala carte menu which priced at RM20++. If you are wondering are their food any good, I recommend you be the judge yourself by trying their lunch promotion. A knockdown price from their usual ala carte menu with free complimentary soup, drink and dessert, you get more than what you bargained for.

Overall, I felt the dishes served here is pretty good especially their Hainanese Chicken Rice and Spaghetti Seafood Aglio Olio. If your work nearby and are contemplating where to have lunch, I would recommend you to come here and have a try.
