Indonesian Martabak MBI @ Waroeng Oma, Sunway Mentari

It is hard to find a good Indonesian restaurant in Malaysia serving really authentic Indonesian food. Little did I know, despite staying at Subang Jaya for more than 10 years, I didn't know there is a cafe catering Indonesian food in Sunway Mentari. That very restaurant is called Waroeng Oma But let's leave the restaurant's review for another post but focus on this martabak manis dessert. Martabak MBI is a small stall located inside Waroeng Oma selling a type of Indonesian dessert called martabak manis. I never really been to Indonesia for their authentic martabak before but I do have several ones back in Johor so let's just see how MBI's martabak match up to them.

Martabak Manis Keju Susu - RM8.50
First of all, we have the typical thick martabak manis. The flavour we had was Keju Susu which means cheese and condensed milk. A bite into this martabak was simply delightful. A slight crisp skin with a very soft and fluffy texture on the inside. For those who are not familiar with martabak, it is a type of Indonesian pancake. The cheese and condensed milk compliment really well with the martabak and it was definitely way better than the ones I had in Johor. According to Bok and Ken, who were also with us that time, they said this martabak was exactly the same as the ones they had in Indonesia.

Martabak Manis Special (Kacang+Coklat+Keju) - RM10
One of my favourite was the martabak manis special made out of peanuts, chocolate and cheese. I love the slight salty but yet sweet combination of this accompanying the perfectly cooked martabak.

Tipker - Martabak Manis (Jagung+Kacang+Coklat)
But what really impress me a lot is their variation of Tipker which the name derived from "tipis dan kering" which means thin and dry. As the normal martabak was soft and fluffy on the inside, it is because it is slightly moist. This Tipker is more like a very thin slice of cracker. The crispiness of the tipker is exceptionally good. The one we had was a variation of the Martabak Manis Special which consists of corn, peanuts and chocolate. It was heavenly and despite being full with dinner, we still gobble down every piece offered and we even tempted to order a take away of it

Tipker - Martabak Manis (Jagung+Keju)

Tipker - Martabak Manis (Pisang+Keju+Coklat) -  RM 6.50

Tipker - Martabak Manis (Coklat Keju) - RM5

As you can see from above, there are a lot of varieties of martabak offered and the ones I featured here in this blog made up only about 10% out of it. They have a blueberry flavoured martabak as well which I think worth mentioning as I tried them once and they were delicious. If you are looking for a dessert place to buka puasa with your family in Subang Jaya or Petaling Jaya, look no further as I highly recommend the martabak over here. Better still, buka puasa at Waroeng Oma as they offered really really good Indonesian homemade dishes like ayam penyet, bakso, soto ayam and many more. They were the best I ever had but I shall share it on another post altogether. And all these are authentic Indonesian food and also halal.

The downside of the martabak manis here from Martabak MBI is that if you opt for take away, their martabak will never be as good as they were fresh. Trust me, as I had tried and the sogginess had robbed away the perfect crispy texture. So, do try them fresh or whenever you dine at Waroeng Oma. They will be perfect.
