Bondi Junction @ Setia Walk, Puchong
Unknown1:00 AM 2 comments

Setia Walk located at the bustling city of Puchong, is fast becoming a mall that is packed with a good amount of pubs, restaurants and cafes. The architecture of this place is quite beautiful with a man-made large fountain area smacked right in the middle. Behind this beauty, is a nightmarish architecture disaster at some point. The layout is not only confusing but the lack of proper and informative signage adds to the frustration as well. There are stairs that lead to nowhere besides up and down with no exits, the basement is pretty much filled with lifts but there are no signage dictating where those lift pretty much lead to and despite being one of the largest mall in the area, there is only one small entrance which is pretty much a headache to get into. Despite all that, the amount of pubs and cafes will still appeal to one wishing to chill out after a long day of work.

Enough rambling about the whole Setia Walk. I was tagging along Caroline for a food review one day at this place. The cafe which actually took us a fair amount of time to look for, not the owner's fault but I do pity him, was called Bondi Junction.

Now, Bondi Junction is basically a suburb area located nearby two very famous beaches in Australia which is Bondi and North Bondi. Pretty much nail a bit of the concept of Setia Walk if you ask me. The chef, Willy, who learned his trade at this particular area of Australia is basically introducing a fusion Italian menu through his restaurant along with several of his original recipe. So without further ado, let's proceed to the list of food that we sampled that very day.

Foccacia Bread (RM25)

This Foccacia Bread is one of Bondi Junction's signature starter dish. The main reason is that the bread was freshly bake and you have to call in to order this probably a day or two earlier to book for this dish. To eat the bread on its own is a tad bit dry to me. Not exactly the kind of starter I had in mine. But to accompany this bread, there is 3 types of dipping to go with. The three dips are sun-dried tomato, feta cheese and parsamigo. All three dips had a hint of sourness in them and this made the bread much more appetizing. The fluffy texture of the bread is definitely commendable and if you like bread, this could be your thing. (I'm not really a fan of bread) The portion is huge and could be shared among 8 to 10 pax.

Mushroom Soup (RM11)
Now before I proceed, I must declare that I'm a fan of Chef Willy's soup. I first tasted his soup dish when he works at Kota Damansara Coffee Chemistry Cafe and it was amazing. The soup is thick and rich in flavor and the soup over here proves that Chef Willy maintain his standards well. Finely diced mushrooms accompanying the crisp toasted sesame bread goes very well for this dish. It is creamy and flavorful with a bit of chewable mushroom chunks thrown inside unlike your canned mushroom soup. I will return for this.

Roasted Pumpkin and Red Capsicum (RM11)
The reason why I love his soup is also because of this soup. I'm not a fan of pumpkin and if given a choice, I will avoid consuming it. But this soup begs to differ. Perfectly roasted pumpkin soup is definitely a dish here you shouldn't miss. It is as creamy and flavorful as the mushroom soup. Remembered I said the bread earlier was a tad bit too dry for me? I ate it together with the soup. Perfect.

Beef Lasagna (RM18)
Chicken Lasagna (RM18)
The lasagna here should be one of Bondi Junction's proudest dish. The combination of sauce used is good and it wasn't too strong until it drowns the taste of the cheese. But what makes their lasagna really good is that you can taste the obvious layering of cheese, pasta sheets and meat. Willy explained that he uses a certain type of cheese (can't remember what it was and I'm no expert) to bake his lasagna and it can avoid all the ingredients in it to crumble and blend together. This is why you can taste the obvious layering in it at every bite.

Bondi Special (RM27)
Meat Lover (RM25)
The pizza over in Bondi Junction are the original recipe of Willy himself. Not only that, their dough was freshly made and prepared by Willy himself every day. So you can definitely guarantee the freshness of their pizza. My personal favorite is the Bondi Special for their unique blend of herbs while Meat Lovers, like its name sake, was filled with generous amount of turkey ham and minced beef. The dough is definitely crispy but it is on the chewy side as well.

Stuffed Seafood Chicken (RM32)
This stuffed seafood chicken with pistachio sauce is definitely a unique dish. My guess is that this could be another original dish from Chef Willy as well. The thick creamy sauce goes perfectly with the stuffed chicken and it is definitely a unique taste. This is my favorite dish for the night. The chicken meat is surprisingly tender and just showed how good it was grilled. It wasn't dry like what most grill chicken might ended up.

Chicken Cordon Bleu (RM30)
The slightly fried Chicken Breast and stuffed with ham is equally nice as well. It is another of Bondi Junction's signature dish and the tender meat was cooked to perfection in my opinion. The wedges were fried crisp brown and definitely crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Roasted Salmon with Red Pesto (RM32)
Any fan of salmon here? This salmon was nicely roasted and it goes quite well with the specially prepared pesto sauce as well. However, I still prefer to eat it plainly like that while garnish with lemon juice.

Classic Apple Pie (RM10)
I am definitely not a fan of any apple pie and unfortunately, this dish did not change my mind about it. I have to commend that the crust of this pie was well made with its crispy and fluffy texture combined but it is a bit tad too sweet for me to handle.

Crème brûlée (RM10)
Now the creme brulee over here is definitely a dessert that you have to try. This combination of vanilla custard base with hardened caramel layer is surprisingly not too sweet. It is just to my liking and definitely one of the best I had although honestly, I did had much to begin with. This is because usually they were too sweet for my liking but this is just perfect. The preparation of this creme brulee was the result of 2 years worth of experimentation by chef Willy and surprisingly, he is still unsatisfied with this current creme brulee and looking to make it even better. I will definitely look forward to the perfection of his creme brulee some time in the future.

Latte
This Latte was specially ordered by me as its fragrance captivate me when chef Willy was having one. When asked, I initially decline to have a cup because the place was stuffy and I had been sweating the whole time. It wasn't until night where it slightly cool down. Probably it was due to the humidity of the light drizzle and also the fact the restaurant was facing the main road. The latte was surprisingly good and very rich in flavor. According to Willy, they have a guy who personally blend his coffee powder. Definitely a very good cup of latte and if you are around the area, you can drop by and have a cup.

Overall it was a satisfying experience dining at Bondi Junction.
