Dai Ban Noodles @ Damansara Uptown
Unknown10:15 AM 0 comments

Damansara Uptown has quite a number of restaurants and cafe nearby. Most of it are just decent enough for a quick meal. However, I rarely frequent that place so I wouldn't know too much either. One of the main reason on why I seldom frequent that particular place is the horrendous traffic jam within that area. Still not as terrible as Taipan USJ though. But anyway, I decided to pay a visit to this restaurant with a couple of food bloggers friends and see if there is any more good restaurants around this area that worth the traffic jam. Dai Ban Noodles was the name of the place and I had passed this restaurant a couple of times before and each time I saw some decent crowds in it. Probably best to give it a try as well.

The interior design gives a warm and welcoming feel. The one thing that I would always love a restaurant to have is some comfortable seating space and this one has it.

This chilli paste was the variation of the chilli paste commonly used for Pan Mee dishes. Being a chilli lover, this is essential for me. I love the combination of spicy and sour in this chilli paste and the spiciness of it definitely pack a punch. If you like your chilli spicy, you will definitely get a kick out of this. There is another variation of dried chilli over here in Dai Ban Noodles which is unfortunate that I forgot to take a picture of. That dried chilli was definitely one of the best I had here. I could chew on it by itself non stop as it wasn't that spicy. But the flavour is really good. I think they have bits of dried shrimps there as well which made it even better. So, the chillies definitely score some good points with me.

Passion Fruit Juice
A fruit juice prepared with fresh passion fruit was definitely the hit of the night. I am not a fan of passion fruit so all I can say is the juice taste nothing like those artificial flavour some places use. Pure and legit passion fruits are used for this drink.

Salted Egg Squid (RM11.90)
Their salted egg fried squid was definitely memorable. The squid used were fresh and chewy and it was definitely fried to perfection. Wouldn't mind having this religiously over supper but I felt it was a little pricey though.

Dai Ban Pork Burger (RM15.90)

Apparently burger is all the rage these days. You can see burger joints mushrooming almost everywhere in Petaling Jaya and it seems like Dai Ban Noodles is not going to lose out on this one. It did felt a little peculiar to me that a noodles restaurant is offering a burger as one of their highlight dishes. The patty of this burger is made out of pork and it is definitely quite thick in portion. However, I felt the patty needs some improvement in terms of seasoning. The taste of pepper to me, should be toned down a little but I would commend on how nicely packed the patty was. It wasn't too lose and it was cooked just right. I felt they have some potential in this as at the moment, it is only average to me.

Traditional Handmade Dai Ban Mee (RM6.50)
When it comes to traditional Pan Mee, Dai Ban Noodles has definitely nailed it right. The ingredients used to prepare the soup base is definitely one of the closest to the traditional flavour and it is quite good as well. The usage of anchovies and sweet leaves for this soup are the key to this soup and I would say this definitely resembles the ones I had when I'm young. The noodles prepared were in the right thickness and smooth texture as well.

Crunchy Prawn Roll (RM7.90)
Crispy skin on the outside with delicious prawn on the inside. Plus point is this dish wasn't too oily at all.

Smoked Duck (RM8.90)
If you ever decided to drop by here to dine, do remember to order a plate of smoked duck. The duck was smoked to perfection and seasoning was done just right. Some smoked duck tends to be too salty but this one definitely have no such issue.

Claypot Pumpkin & Pork Rib Congee (RM10.90)
I am never a fan of pumpkin but this claypot pumpkin and pork rib congee is definitely one of the highlight of the meal. The golden yellow texture of the congee tastes as good as it looks. The strong pumpkin taste definitely compliments the smooth congee really well. And the pork ribs cooked here was tender and juicy as well. I am not a fan of pumpkin sweetness but I am definitely a fan of what they did to this congee.

Lemon Grass Pork Chop with Fried Rice (RM12.90)
The portion on this dish was definitely quite generous and the pork chop was cooked to perfection as well. Tender and juicy meat inside and the slight crispy outside was very flavourful as well. The fried rice accompanying this pork chop was average though. But that doesn't matter as the pork chop makes up for it.

Overall, I felt Dai Ban Noodles offer some good food. I especially love the Pan Mee, Pumpkin Congee and Smoked Duck. If you are staying or working nearby, it is definitely a worthwhile place to dine at. The variety of dishes offered by Dai Ban Noodles are plentiful so you wouldn't be short of options to dine there. Probably they shouldn't include the name "Noodles" as I felt it would deliver a different expectation from consumers but that was only my opinion.
