The Steakhouse @ Changkat Bukit Bintang

You know what is the most frustrating thing you can encounter? Bringing a hot date to try a little fine dining in Kuala Lumpur, decided to fork out a little more just to impress your date but only to find out you had spent on crappy steak. It is not that hard to find a place serving steak in Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya but it is quite a task finding one that serves you great steak.

When a fine dining restaurant that was set up at one of the most happening street in Malaysia where there are tonnes of restaurants around that serve good steaks decided to call themselves, The Steakhouse, I am totally looking forward to check out the bases of their confidence.

The Steakhouse definitely doesn't give too much of a fine dining aura with its interior design. But it is modern, a cross between raw design and modern design gave out a very warm and chilling atmosphere. I am a 3D designer so a good interior design is like cigarette to me. Not necessary good for me but sets me in the mood. Their interior design is top class and definitely one of the best among these restaurants and bars over here.

We were served with a range of their signature alcohol drinks and I am not yet an expert in alcoholic drinks as I don't drink much. A pretty funny thing about me actually because I love food and my entire family except for me and my mom, loves alcoholic drinks. My dad especially is an expert. But let's leave that, here are the drinks served to us that night at The Steakhouse.

White Wine Pear Sangria - RM28
White Wine Pear Sangria - Spanish white wine, gin, pear, soda, lemon and diced fruits.

Definitely my favourite drink that night. The sweetness of the wine really goes well with the fruits mixed in it. Definitely a must order if I am there again.

Old Fashioned - RM28
Old Fashioned - bourbon, orange, sugar and soda

A simple combination and yet very refreshing. Just like adding a little sweetness to the bourbon.

Fruity Red Sangria - RM28
Fruity Red Sangria - Spanish red wine, triple sec, rum, orange juice, soda and diced fruits

Despite the mixed varieties here, the red wine and rum had overshadowed their taste. Couldn't really taste much of the orange juice or the taste of the fruits added.

Whisky Sour - RM28
Whisky Sour - bourbon, lemon, egg white and sugar

Like how the sourness of lemon compliment with the bourbon. I also like the fact that sugar was added to balance the sourness of the drink. The stickiness of the egg white texture though, is something weird for me.

Air Dried Spanish Beef Ham
For our first dish, we were served with this dish called Air Dried Spanish Beef Ham. It is rather peculiar to have slices of Beef Ham to serve with a slice of Honeydew. At first bite of the Spanish Beef Ham, I wasn't quite fond of it. The amazingly thin sliced beef are actually quite salty. I would believe having this with bread (which I found out later that it was recommended to be served with bread) would be best due to its saltiness. This however brought me into the attention of the honeydew in the middle. So I decided to eat some slices of ham together with a chunk of that honeydew. Surprisingly, it goes quite well. The sweetness of the honeydew had made the saltiness of the ham slices a lot milder and indeed it is quite an unique taste of sweet and salty. It is actually quite nice if you ask me.

Baked Portobello Mushroom
A layer of heavenly cheese coating a giant mushroom and prawn is definitely something you should not miss if you ever come here. The cheese were baked to perfection and so are the ingredients inside. The seafood used are definitely fresh and is you are a cheese and mushroom lover, you would go crazy over this.

Beef Stroganoff - RM48
The Beef Stroganoff here is served with tender beef slices cooked to perfection of well done. What makes this dish even more amazing is the flavourful mushroom sauce used and also the potato fried to crispy golden brown. The potato was fried till crispy and yet maintaining a fresh and soft texture on the inside. If this is a french fries, it got to be the Rolls Royce of french fries.

Grilled Black Cod Fish - RM58
The cod fish here is grilled to perfection as well with a very crispy layer of skin. The meat is still as juicy as ever since it is fresh and it is served with a wasabi pesto sauce. The taste is definitely unique and delicious.

Seafood Aglio Olio - RM39
Being a fan of Aglio Olio, I must say that The Steakhouse serves one of the best aglio olio around. The spaghetti was cooked to al dente and the flavouring was done just right with the right amount of olive oil. The seafood used are definitely fresh and despite being a little pricey, I think it can justify the amount of fresh seafood used here.

Chilled Australian Grain Fed - Striploin (300gm) - RM68
Now comes to the moment that I had been waiting for and also the very reason why I came here. The food from the beginning definitely give me a very good impression and I was saving my stomach for the steak they offered. Both of the steaks were ordered medium rare and the first that we tried is definitely the Chilled Australian Grain Fed Striploin Steak.

I am definitely most impressed with it. The steak was definitely cooked to medium rare and the meat is so juicy and tender, I couldn't get enough of it. The meat was slightly chewy but very well marinated before grilled. I couldn't care less about the onion rings on top or the grilled vegetables as I am only going for the meat. The steak is definitely really good.

Chilled & Aged Black Angus - Tenderloin(200gm) - RM98
Next, we were served the Chilled & Aged Black Angus Tenderloin Steak. I am definitely looking forward to this steak as to how well the striploin steak was prepared.

As expected, the tenderloin is definitely have a much beefier taste and surprisingly, the meat was very tender as well as I thought the tenderloin should be a bit tougher than the striploin. The steak was very well marinated and was cooked to medium rare perfection. I do notice that some of the grilled vegetables are overdone but it doesn't matter as the steak tasted so damn good. I have to give it to them that they really do live up to their name.

Belgium Chocolate Fondue - RM35
Next, we were served with their Belgium Chocolate Fondue which I found it to be quite typical. Thick and flavourful Belgium chocolate are used of course.
Werner's Special - RM22.50
For their dessert, we were recommended to several of their specials and one of it is their Werner's Special. Named after their owner, I assume that this is an original variation created by the owner Mr. Werner Kuhn. This dessert has fresh strawberries in it with mango sauce. It is complimented with wild raspberry sorbet and also a layer of chocolate mousse. Hearing the ingredients used to make this Werner's Special, it is not hard to guess that this dessert will turn out to be sourish with some berry sweetness in it. I wasn't too fond of sourish taste but if you do like sourish taste of berries and dessert, this would definitely suit your tastebud.

Andrea's Special - RM22.50
The Andrea's Special was named after one of their ex-staff if I am not mistaken and this got to be my favourite dessert of the night. A splendid dessert that consists of white chocolate ice cream, chocolate mousse, chocolate crumble, banana, passion fruit and pear with red wine. The chocolatey taste from this Andrea's Special is akin of taking a ride through Charlie's Chocolate Factory. This is definitely a sinful yet extremely delicious dessert that I wouldn't mind gaining weight for.

Classic Tiramisu - RM22.50
The one thing that I love about their Classic Tiramisu is it is not too sweet  and very creamy indeed. The slight bitterness and sweet creamy texture is something you would hard to forget especially if your are a coffee or tiramisu lover. The mango sauce added to it had added a bit of sourish taste to it.

Homemade Ice Cream - RM12 per scoop
The Steakhouse also serves their own homemade Ice Cream which is something you shouldn't miss out on here. The ones we had here are the Mango Sherbet and Pistachio Sherbet at the bottom of the photo while the top is their homemade vanilla ice cream. The ice cream are very well made and its flavour is definitely something your couldn't find elsewhere.

My final verdict of The Steakhouse is that they really lived up to their name. Their steak are definitely top class and probably one of the best that I ever had. The food I tried over here are exceptionally good and it totally worth braving the horrendous traffic and parking around here. It is a little pricey to dine here but I believe that dining here would definitely worth every penny you paid for and will definitely ensure a successful date with whoever you want to be.
